Okay, so I decided to give this “xtreme field hockey” thing a try. I’d heard some buzz about it and figured, why not? It sounded like a fun way to get some exercise and maybe meet some new people. I signed up for the “Xtreme Beginner” group, since, you know, I’m a total newbie.
First off, getting geared up was a whole ordeal. I mean, I knew I needed a stick and some shin guards, but there’s so much other stuff! Mouthguards, special shoes, gloves… it was a bit overwhelming. But I managed to find everything at a local sports store, and the guy there was super helpful. He explained the differences between all the sticks and helped me pick one that was a good fit for a beginner.
The first session was… interesting. I showed up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to learn. Turns out, even the “beginner” level is pretty intense! The coaches, who were all super experienced and clearly knew their stuff, started us off with some basic drills. Passing, dribbling, that sort of thing. It was tough! My coordination was all over the place, and I felt like I was constantly tripping over my own feet. But everyone was really encouraging, and I started to get the hang of it, sort of.
- First day was tough, lots of running and drills, but I made a good friend who’s also just start.
- Next few days we started to learn to shoot, it was hard, but I did it!
- We even got to play some mini-games, which was awesome.
Over the next few weeks, I kept at it. I practiced at home in my backyard, much to the amusement of my neighbors. I started to feel more confident on the field. I could actually hit the ball where I wanted it to go, most of the time.
We even got to play some mini-games toward the end of the program, which was awesome. I wouldn’t say I was good, but I definitely wasn’t the worst one out there anymore! We also learned some basic strategies, which was cool. It made me realize how much more there is to the sport than just hitting a ball around.
My Takeaway
So, yeah, xtreme field hockey was a wild ride. It was challenging, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately really rewarding. I pushed myself physically and mentally, learned a new skill, and had a blast doing it. I’m not sure if I’ll become a hardcore player or anything, but I’m definitely going to keep playing. Maybe I’ll even join a league or something. Who knows? If you’re looking for something new and exciting to try, I’d definitely recommend giving xtreme field hockey a shot. Just be prepared to work hard and have some laughs along the way! And that guy I met at first day? We gonna play next week, it’s gonna be fun!
