Okay, let me tell you about this whole “Oakland Chargers Baseball” thing I got stuck on a while back.
It started pretty randomly. I think I overheard someone mention it, or maybe I saw it scribbled somewhere, I don’t quite remember exactly how the name got in my head. Oakland Chargers Baseball. Sounded kinda cool, right? Like maybe some new local league or something I hadn’t heard of.
So, naturally, I decided I gotta check this out. First thing I did, I sat down and tried to look it up. Spent a good chunk of time searching around, you know, just trying to find game schedules, maybe a team website, anything really. But it was weird. Everything coming back was mixed up. Pages about the Chargers, but they’re football, right? And down in LA now mostly. Then stuff about Oakland baseball, which is the A’s, totally different colors, different everything. Nothing about Chargers playing baseball in Oakland.
I thought, maybe it’s super underground? Or brand new? I even asked a couple buddies who are big into local sports. They just kinda looked at me funny. One guy was like, “You mean the A’s? Or the Raiders when they were still here?” Nope, I said, “Chargers Baseball.” Got blank stares. It was getting kinda frustrating, honestly.
Hitting the Road (Sort Of)
Well, I wasn’t getting anywhere just looking stuff up. So I figured, heck with it, next time I was over in the East Bay, I’d just drive near the stadium area in Oakland. See if maybe there were signs, banners, anything indicating this team existed. Maybe it was a minor league thing that just didn’t have much online presence.
So I did that one Saturday. Drove over towards the Coliseum complex. It felt familiar, you know? Seen plenty of A’s games there over the years, even some Raiders games way back. I parked and just walked around a bit. It was pretty quiet, no game day buzz for what I was looking for.
What I did see were the old A’s colors everywhere, the green and gold. Some leftover tailgate stuff here and there. The big stadium just sitting there. It got me thinking about actual games I’d been to. The roar of the crowd, the smell of hot dogs, all that stuff.
- I remembered one specific A’s game, years ago, a walk-off win. The energy was insane.
- Thought about the weirdness of the stadium itself, half baseball, half football setup back in the day.
- Just soaked in that specific Oakland sports vibe for a bit.
The Realization
Standing there, looking at the Coliseum, it kinda hit me. Maybe I just mashed things up in my head? Chargers… Oakland… Baseball… maybe my brain just threw them all together? It happens, right? Especially when you hear things in passing.

So, yeah. I never found the “Oakland Chargers Baseball” team. Pretty sure it doesn’t actually exist. It was a bit of a wild goose chase. But you know what? Spending that afternoon wandering around, reminiscing about actual Oakland sports history, that wasn’t so bad. Sometimes the journey, even a confusing one based on a made-up name in my head, leads you to appreciate the real things you already knew.
Ended up just grabbing some food nearby and calling it a day. Still don’t know where I got that name from, but the little adventure wasn’t a total waste. Just another weird little story, I guess.
