Okay, so today I messed around with something called “Margaret McCaffery.” Honestly, I didn’t even know who she was before today, just a name I stumbled across. Turns out, she’s an artist, and it looked like fun to try and replicate, you know, get a feel for her style. So that’s what I did!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to actually see some of her work. I did a quick image search and…wow. Lots of colorful, kind of abstract stuff. It looked like a mix of painting and maybe some collage? I wasn’t totally sure, but it was definitely interesting.
I Grabbed some supplies from the random stuff I have collected.

- Paper: Just regular printer paper.
- Paints: I found some old acrylics I used a while ago.
- Brushes: A couple of different sizes, nothing fancy.
- Scissors and Glue: Because it looked like there might be some cutting and pasting involved.
The Messy Process
I picked one of Margaret’s pieces that looked manageable, kind of like a bunch of overlapping shapes and colors. I started by just slapping some paint on the paper. Seriously, no plan, just gobs of color. I used blues, reds, yellows…whatever felt right.
Then, while the paint was still wet, I started messing around with it. I used a dry brush to kind of swirl some of the colors together. I even used my fingers a bit (don’t judge!). It was starting to look…well, messy, but in a good way.
After that, I let it dry for a bit. Then came the fun part – cutting out shapes! I took some scrap paper and just started snipping. Triangles, circles, squiggles…whatever. Then I glued them onto the painted background, kind of overlapping them like in the picture I saw.
The (Kind Of) Finished Product
Honestly, it doesn’t look exactly like Margaret McCaffery’s work. But it’s…inspired by it, let’s say. It was more about the process, anyway. It was super relaxing to just play with colors and shapes, and not worry about making it perfect. It was a chance to just experiment and see what happened.
I might try this again sometime, maybe with different materials. I’m thinking tissue paper or fabric scraps could be cool. Who knows! It’s all about having fun and trying new things, right?
