Okay, so today I decided to tackle something I’ve been putting off forever – making a super simple animation of, get this, the most boring sports imaginable. Think golf, maybe curling… you get the idea. It’s all about the irony, you know?
Getting Started (aka Procrastinating Efficiently)
First, I spent a good hour just staring at my computer, brainstorming. What is the most boring sport to watch? Darts? Competitive eating(Is it a sport?)? Finally, I settled on synchronized swimming. It’s… well, it’s something.
I doodled some stick figures in my notebook. Stick figures are my artistic limit, so that’s what we’re working with. I pictured them moving in slow motion, almost painfully slow. The whole point is to emphasize the boring, remember?

The “Animation” Process (and I Use That Term Loosely)
Next, I opened up my trusty old animation program. It’s nothing fancy, just something basic I downloaded years ago. I started by drawing my stick figures. One leg up, then slowly down… another leg up, slowly down… You see where I am going.
- Drew the first stick figure.
- Copied and pasted it.
- Slightly moved the limbs in the new frame.
- Repeated this process about a million times.
It took forever. Seriously, animating even the simplest thing is tedious. But I persevered! I added some water (a blue rectangle, obviously – my art skill is limit) and some floaties (orange circles). High-tech stuff, I know.
The Big Reveal (aka My Masterpiece)
Finally, I hit play. And there it was. My stick figures, gracefully (or not so gracefully) “swimming” in their blue rectangle pool. It was… breathtakingly boring. Mission accomplished!
The whole thing is maybe 10 seconds long, and it probably took me way longer than it should have. But hey, I made something! And it’s perfectly, wonderfully, hilariously boring. That’s gotta count for something, right?
