Okay, so I was watching some old UFC highlights the other night, you know, just chilling. Got to thinking about Daniel Cormier, DC. What a career, right? Wrestler turned MMA champ in two divisions. Absolute legend.
Then this random question just popped into my head – where did Daniel Cormier go to college? I mean, everyone knows about his Olympic-level wrestling, that usually means a strong college background. So, I figured I’d look it up.
Fired up my laptop, opened a browser. My first search was pretty simple, something like “daniel cormier college”.

Right away, the big name that came up was Oklahoma State University. Makes sense, right? OSU wrestling is legendary. I thought, “Okay, cool, Oklahoma State.” Figured that was the whole story. Lots of top wrestlers end up at those big Division I programs.
Digging a Bit More
But then I scrolled a bit further, maybe clicked on a couple of the results. Sometimes there’s more to it, you know? Athletes transfer, things change.
And yep, there it was. Before Oklahoma State, DC actually wrestled somewhere else. Turns out he started his college journey at a junior college.
- Colby Community College in Kansas. That was his first stop.
- He wrestled there for two seasons, apparently was a beast, won national championships at the junior college level.
After tearing it up at Colby, that’s when he transferred to Oklahoma State University. He finished his college career there, becoming an NCAA Division I All-American.
So, the answer wasn’t just one place. It was a path: Colby Community College first, then onto the big stage at Oklahoma State. Pretty common route for guys looking to get to D1, starting at a JUCO. Good for him, clearly worked out!

Anyway, that scratched my curiosity itch for the night. Just thought I’d share what I found out during my little search session.
