Alright, so, I wanted to make a list of what I think are the best sci-fi things from the ’90s. You know, the stuff that really blew my mind back then and still holds up today. Here’s how I went about it.
First, I sat down and started brainstorming. I just jotted down every movie, book, TV show, and even video game I could remember from the ’90s that had some kind of sci-fi element. It was a mess at first, with names and titles all over the place, just whatever popped into my head.
Then, I went through that giant list and started organizing it a bit. I grouped things into categories, like “Movies,” “Books,” and so on. This made it easier to see what I was working with, and I could see which areas had a lot of stuff and which were a little thin.

Next, I started doing some research. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t forgetting anything major, so I hit up some websites and forums where people talk about ’90s sci-fi. I read through old magazine articles and checked out some “best of” lists that other folks had made. Just to get some ideas, you know?
After that, I started re-watching some of the movies and re-reading parts of the books that I had totally forgotten about. I wanted to see if they were as good as I remembered. Some were even better than I remembered, others not so much. It was fun, but also kind of a lot of work.
My Criteria
Then I needed to decide what I wanted to base my choices on. After thinking about it for a while, I made a short list of what I thought was most important:
- How original was it? Was it something completely new, or just the same old stuff?
- Did it make me think? Good sci-fi should make you think about the world and what could be, right?
- How well did it age? Some things that seemed cool back then look kind of silly now.
- Did I like it? This one is important too. These are my favorites, after all.
Then, I carefully went through each item on my list again. I rated each one based on those things I just mentioned. I wrote down little notes about each one, why I liked it, what made it stand out, and so on.
Finally, I narrowed it all down. It was tough, but I managed to pick out what I thought were the absolute best examples of ’90s sci-fi. These were the things that really stuck with me, that I kept coming back to, and that I think represent the best of what that decade had to offer.

So, that’s the story of how I put together my list. It was a fun trip down memory lane, and it reminded me just how much great sci-fi came out of the ’90s.
