Okay, guys, let’s talk about my latest project – setting up some lights for my dartboard. You know, I’ve been playing darts for a while now, and sometimes, especially in the evenings, the lighting in my room just isn’t cutting it. I squint, I strain, and my accuracy goes out the window. Not fun.
So, I started thinking, “There’s gotta be a better way.” I did a little digging online. Some folks recommended these fancy, expensive lighting systems. But me? I’m more of a DIY guy. Plus, I didn’t want to break the bank.
My first move was to analyze my current setup. The dartboard was hanging on the wall, and I had a single overhead light in the room. This caused some serious shadows, making it hard to see the board clearly. Especially those doubles and trebles, they were playing hide and seek with me! I need something to get better visibility.

Then it hit me – why not use two lights, one on each side of the board? This way, I could minimize those pesky shadows. I rummaged through my garage and found two old desk lamps. They weren’t pretty, but I figured they’d do the trick.
I positioned the lamps on either side of the dartboard, a bit higher up and angled towards the board. I plugged them in, flipped the switch, and bam! What a difference! The board was lit up evenly, and those shadows were almost gone. I could finally see those small segments without doing a contortionist act.
My Setup
- Used:Two old desk lamps
- Placement:One on each side of the dartboard, angled inwards
- Result:Even lighting, minimal shadows, better visibility.
I played a few games, and my accuracy improved noticeably. I mean, I’m not saying I became a pro overnight, but at least I wasn’t blaming the lighting anymore. It was just more fun and less frustrating. And you know what? It felt good to solve this problem without spending a fortune on some fancy system. Just good old-fashioned ingenuity and some dusty old lamps. So, if you’re struggling with dartboard lighting, give this a try. You might be surprised at how well it works!
This little project reminded me that sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best. And hey, if it saves you some money and improves your game, that’s a win-win in my book. This is my way to play darts.
