Okay, so I’ve been trying to up my boxing game lately, and I kept hearing about how important the heavy bag is. And, of course, everyone talks about Mayweather’s training, so I figured I’d try to figure out what kind of bag he uses. It became a bit of a rabbit hole, honestly.
Digging for Clues
I started by, you know, just Googling it. “Mayweather heavy bag,” “Mayweather training routine,” that kind of stuff. I figured there’d be some article or interview where he’d mention it, or maybe a video where I could get a good look at his bag.
No such luck, at first. Lots of generic stuff about heavy bag workouts, but nothing specific to Mayweather. I even checked out some boxing forums, thinking maybe some hardcore fans would know. Still nothing concrete.

Narrowing it Down
What I did find was a bunch of info about heavy bag weights in general. So, like, I learned that a good rule of thumb is to use a bag that’s about half your body weight. Since I’m not exactly Mayweather’s size, that wasn’t super helpful, but it was a start.
I also learned that pros often use heavier bags to build power. And they might have multiple bags of different weights for different types of training.
My Best Guess (and What I’m Doing)
Based on what I could gather, and knowing that Mayweather is (or was) a welterweight, I’m guessing he probably used a bag somewhere in the 100-150 pound range, maybe even heavier for some workouts. But honestly? That’s just an educated guess.
For my own training, I’m not going that heavy yet! I grabbed a bag that’s a bit more than half my weight, and it’s kicking my butt. I figure I’ll work my way up, and maybe one day I’ll be able to handle a Mayweather-sized bag. Probably not, but a guy can dream, right?
- I tired to find.
- I searched a lot.
- I guess.
So, yeah, that’s my deep dive into Mayweather’s heavy bag. Not the definitive answer I was hoping for, but I learned a lot along the way!
