Alright, so I decided it was finally time to upgrade my dart game. My old ones were, well, let’s just say they’d seen better days. Bent flights, dull points… you get the picture. So I started looking around, not really knowing where to begin. I mean, there are tons of darts out there!
First, I hit up some local sports stores. I figured I could actually hold the darts, get a feel for the weight and balance. I tried a few different sets, throwing them at the little test board they had set up. Some felt too light, others too heavy. One set had these weird, knobbly grips that just felt…off.
Then, I spent some time browsing online. This was a whole other world. So many brands, so many materials, so many price points! I felt like I needed a degree in dart-ology just to understand it all.

I started reading reviews, trying to get a sense of what other people liked. I quickly realized there’s no “one size fits all” in the dart world. What works for one person might be terrible for another. It’s all about personal preference, your throwing style, and what feels comfortable in your hand.
My Checklist
After a while, I started to narrow down what I was looking for. I made a little checklist:
- Weight: I decided to go for something in the mid-range, around 22-24 grams. My old darts were probably lighter, but I wanted something with a bit more heft.
- Grip: I wanted something with a good, solid grip, but nothing too aggressive. I didn’t want the darts sticking to my fingers!
- Material: Tungsten seemed to be the way to go. It’s denser than brass, so you can get a slimmer dart with the same weight. Slimmer darts mean tighter groupings, right?
- Flights and Shafts: I figured I could always swap these out later, so I wasn’t too worried about them initially.
- Price:I am not a pro player. So I don’t want to buy the most expensive one, but I would spend some money for a much better darts.
With my checklist in hand, I went back to the online stores. This time, I felt a lot more focused. I narrowed it down to a few different sets, read some more reviews, and finally pulled the trigger on a set of 23-gram tungsten darts with a nice, knurled grip.
When they arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I ripped open the package, screwed on the flights and shafts, and headed straight for my dartboard. And you know what? They felt great. The weight was perfect, the grip was comfortable, and they flew straight and true. Finally! upgrade is successful.
It took some time and digging but it works for me. I suggest making your own checklist like me, that will help you a lot!
