Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the UConn women’s basketball team’s offense lately. It’s seriously fascinating! I wanted to really understand what makes them so dominant, so I started by watching a ton of game footage.
I started with recent games, then went back a few seasons to see how things have evolved. My goal was to break down their plays, figure out their go-to sets, and see how they react to different defenses.
Breaking Down the Plays
- First, I just watched, trying to get a feel for their overall style. It’s fast-paced, lots of passing, and constant movement. Players are rarely standing still.
- Then, I started focusing on specific possessions. I’d rewind and rewatch, trying to map out where each player was moving and why. I used a notepad and pen to do so.
- Next, I tried to identify common patterns. I noticed they love using screens, both on-ball and off-ball. They’re masters of creating space.
-
I also observed that they use high pick sets to try to make space, also off-ball screen.
It was tough at first! There’s so much happening at once. But I kept at it, focusing on one player at a time, then trying to see how their movements connected with the others.
I realized that a lot of their offense is about reading and reacting. They’re not just running set plays; they’re adjusting on the fly based on what the defense gives them.I think I get the hang of *’s amazing to watch once, you really see what makes this special!
