Okay, so, I’ve been getting into the Montreal basketball scene lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a trip. I heard about this MBL, the Montreal Basketball League, and it sounded like exactly what I was looking for. Some good old-fashioned competitive hoops without all the drama.
First thing I did was hit up their Instagram, you know, @mbl_bball. Got a feel for the vibe, saw some game highlights, and yeah, it looked legit. They’ve got quite a following – 3456 Followers. That’s a good sign. I mean it’s not the NBA, but still. There are also some posts about them – 315 posts, which means they are active, you know. They also have 700 followings.
Then, I started digging a bit deeper. Found out they’ve got different divisions, like AAA and AA, which is cool. Means there’s a level for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned baller or just getting back into the game after a long break like me. I don’t even know what AAA or AA means. I just want to play basketball!
I also realized the MBL isn’t just about the guys. They’ve got leagues for girls too, novice level and all. That’s pretty awesome, making it a real community thing. Respect for that, seriously.
- Checked out their Instagram for the vibe.
- Dug deeper into their website, found out about the different divisions.
- Realized they have leagues for women too!
The whole process of finding a team and getting registered was a bit confusing at first, honestly. There isn’t exactly a big, flashing “JOIN NOW” button anywhere. But that’s where this other app, Pickup Sports, came in handy. It’s like a hub for finding local sports leagues, and they have a section for the MBL. That helped streamline things a bit.
I did some more research. And I realized that this MBL is getting popular, really fast. It seems that a lot of people want to join. I guess many people love basketball, just like me.
I also found a blog – MTL blog, talking about the MBL, it seems this blog is about some latest news and stories. And this blog also talks about the MBL!
I also noticed that this league is a community-based volunteer organization. I think that’s why it is so popular. Because it creates positive opportunities for youth to develop personal skills within a flexible basketball, that’s what I read from somewhere, I don’t remember.
But anyway, after a few days, I finally found a team that was looking for players. I sent a message to the captain, and I guess I’m going to have a tryout next week. Wish me luck! It’s been a while since I played organized basketball, but I’m stoked.
My MBL Journey So Far
- Found a team through the Pickup Sports app.
- Messaged the captain and got a tryout scheduled.
- Feeling excited (and a little nervous) to get back on the court.
I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Hopefully, I’ll make the team, and we’ll have a killer season. This whole MBL thing seems pretty solid, and I’m glad I stumbled upon it. It’s a good reminder that there’s always a way to stay active and be part of something, even when you’re not a pro athlete. Gotta love those community leagues, right?
