Okay, so, “tennis do-over” – sounds simple enough, right? Well, let me tell you, it turned into a whole thing. I’ve been trying to get back into tennis, you know, for “fitness” and “fun.” But mostly fitness, because my jeans have been feeling a little… snug.
First, I dusted off my old racket. It had been chilling in the garage for, like, five years? Maybe more. The grip was all sticky and gross, so I spent a good hour just trying to clean that thing up. Found some old, half-used grip tape in a drawer – score!
The Gear Struggle
- Racket: Check (after a deep clean).
- Balls: Uh oh. Found a can, but they were flatter than pancakes.
- Shoes: My running shoes? Probably not ideal, but they’d have to do.
- Outfit: Sweats and an old t-shirt. Glamorous, I know.
Next up, finding a court. My local park has courts, but they’re always packed. I drove around for a bit, and finally spotted one that was empty. Hallelujah!

Then came the actual playing part. Let’s just say, my skills were… rusty. I whiffed a lot. Like, a LOT. My serves were either going into the net or sailing way out of bounds. I chased after balls like a confused puppy. I tripped at least twice. And I definitely pulled a muscle in my shoulder trying to hit a super-fast serve (which, of course, missed completely).
But, you know what? It was still kinda fun. Even though I looked like a total amateur, I got some exercise, enjoyed the sunshine, and laughed at myself a bunch. I definitely need more practice, but hey, that’s what do-overs are for. I plan on going back. With better shoes and maybe some lessons.
