Okay, so today I wanted to tackle the NYT crossword. I’ve always heard about it, how it’s like the gold standard for crosswords and all that. I figured, why not give it a shot?
First off, I headed over to the New York Times website, found the Games section, and there it was – the crossword. Today’s puzzle. I clicked on it, and boom, the grid popped up on my screen. It looked pretty intimidating, I gotta say. All those blank squares staring back at me.
I started with the across clues, just going through them one by one. Some of them were easy, like fill-in-the-blanks that I could get right away. Others, not so much. I skipped a few that I had no clue about, figuring I’d come back to them later. Then I moved on to the down clues, doing the same thing. I filled in what I could, skipped what I couldn’t.

- Tried to find a word I could fill in easily.
- Filled the word in the grid.
- Read the next clue and repeat.
After a while, I had a few words filled in here and there. That’s when it started getting interesting. I could use the letters I already had to help me figure out the other words. Like, if I had a five-letter word and I knew three of the letters, I could try to guess the missing ones based on what made sense.
Use the existing letters to guess
It was like a puzzle within a puzzle. I kept going back and forth between the across and down clues, using the letters I had to narrow down the possibilities. Some words came to me in a flash of inspiration. Others, I had to really wrack my brain. I googled a couple of clues, I’ll admit. Hey, no shame in getting a little help, right? Sometimes you just need a nudge in the right direction.
Slowly but surely, the grid started to fill up. More and more words appeared, and I could feel myself getting more and more into it. It’s a pretty satisfying feeling, seeing those blank squares turn into letters and words.
Finally, after a good chunk of time, I managed to fill in the very last square. The puzzle was complete! I leaned back, took a deep breath, and just looked at it for a moment. I did it. I actually finished the NYT crossword.
It was a fun challenge, I gotta say. Definitely not easy, but that’s what makes it interesting. It’s like a mental workout. Plus, you learn some new words and trivia along the way. I’m thinking I might make this a regular thing. Maybe not every day, but at least a few times a week. We’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, that was my little crossword adventure for today. If you’ve never tried it, I’d say give it a shot. It’s a good way to kill some time and keep your brain sharp.
