Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Road 96 lately, and I wanted to figure out how to get a more consistent playthrough. It’s a cool game, but the randomness can be a pain if you’re trying to see specific things.
First, I started a new game, obviously. I noticed that the initial escape scenes seem to be somewhat grouped. Like, you’ll get a few hitchhiking ones in a row, then maybe a couple bus ones, that kind of thing. So, I paid attention to that.
Then, I started writing down what happened in each escape. Who did I meet? What choices did I make? Did I get caught? Did I die (oops)? It was a little tedious, but it really helped me see patterns. The game throws a lot at you, and I made notes.

What I quickly realized is that some characters are linked to certain escape methods. For example, if you want to see more of Sonya, you’re probably better off hitchhiking. If you’re trying to boost your connection with Alex, the bus might be a better bet. Not always, but it’s a trend I noticed. It became like some sort of my own personal diary!
- Hitchhiking: Seemed to have more random encounters, higher chance of Sonya, but also higher risk.
- Bus: More predictable, good for building up cash, potentially better for Alex, but slower.
- Walking: Don’t do it. Seriously. Unless you really want to suffer.
- Stealing a Car: Only do it if your energy ok.
I also started experimenting with the political choices. At first, I was all over the place, but then I decided to focus on one path (either supporting Florres or going full rebellion) and see how that changed things. It definitely impacts which characters you run into more often and how certain events play out. Also, the ending too.
After a few playthroughs like this, keeping track of everything, I felt like I had a much better handle on the game. I wouldn’t say it’s completely predictable, but I could definitely steer things in the direction I wanted. Like, if I wanted a Zoe-heavy playthrough, I knew what choices to make and what escape routes to favor. I got my Zoe-heavy playthrough.
My Big Takeaways
It’s all about recognizing the patterns and making deliberate choices. Keep a little notebook (or use your phone, whatever) and jot down what happens. Focus on one political path at a time. And don’t be afraid to reload if things go really wrong (we’ve all been there). My little notebook helped me a lot.
It take the randomness out completely, but it makes it feel a lot more manageable. And it’s way more satisfying when you finally get the ending you were aiming for!
