Okay, so I was doing my usual crossword puzzle today, and I stumbled upon this clue: “poetic it is.” I was like, “What the heck?” I mean, it’s so short and kinda vague, right?
First, I brainstormed some common poetic devices. You know, stuff like similes, metaphors, alliteration… the usual suspects. But none of them seemed to fit in a five-letter word. I even tried thinking of super short poems or poetic forms, like haikus or something. Still nothing!
Then, I started looking at the crossing words. See, that’s the trick with crosswords, sometimes you gotta work backwards! One of the crossing words had an “O” in the third position. That gave me a little nudge. Hmmm, what five-letter word, related to poetry, has an “O” as the third letter?

I went through a couple of options in my head, mentally filling in the blanks. _ _ O _ _. I was playing that good game!
- Could it be “SONG_”? Nope, doesn’t quite capture the “it is” part of the clue.
- Maybe “POEM_”? Still doesn’t really fit the “it is” part.
And then, it hit me! “Tis” is the old-school, poetic way of saying “it is”! So the answer must be related to that somehow. And there is this word, “POETIC IT IS” equals to “TIS SO”.
So i tried a final search, and BINGO!!
It was such a simple answer, but it took me a bit of roundabout thinking to get there. That’s what I love about crosswords, though. They make you think in different ways!
