Okay, so I’ve been digging into golf stats lately, you know, trying to improve my own game. I stumbled upon this “PGA Tour average club head speed” thing and thought, “Hey, that’s interesting! Let’s see where I stand.”
My Quest for Speed
First, I grabbed my launch monitor – it’s not the fanciest thing, but it gets the job done. I warmed up with some stretches, just like the pros do (or at least, I try to!). Then, I started swinging my driver, focusing on good form and solid contact.
I hit about 20 balls, really trying to give it my all. My launch monitor was spitting out numbers, and honestly, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. Some swings were decent, others… well, let’s just say I wouldn’t want those on the PGA Tour!

The Numbers Game
- Fastest swing: 115 mph – Whoa! Felt like I really crushed that one.
- Slowest swing: 98 mph – Okay, maybe I was getting a little tired.
- Average speed: Around 106 mph – Not too shabby, but definitely room for improvement.
After crunching the numbers, my average club head speed was hovering around 106 mph. I did some quick searching online, and it looked like the PGA Tour average is somewhere around 113-115 mph. So, I’m a bit behind, but hey, that’s motivation, right?
What I Learned
It gave some perspective to what I needed. To get swing speed like I wanted, I needed to practice.
This whole experiment showed me that I’ve got some work to do. I’m thinking of adding some speed training exercises to my routine. Maybe some weighted swings, some resistance bands… gotta find what works for me. It’s all about that continuous improvement, you know? This was fun and I will do some more testing and recording next time!
