Okay, so I’ve always been a huge football fan, and Patrick Mahomes? Man, that guy is something else. I started thinking, “What if I could get my hands on some of his rookie cards?” You know, those cards from way back when he was just starting out. It sounded like a cool idea, a little piece of football history.
So, I started digging around. I read some articles online, scrolled through forums, just trying to figure out where to even begin. Turns out, Mahomes’ rookie cards are a pretty big deal. I mean, I saw that one of his cards, a “2017 National Treasures NFL Shield Mahomes Rookie Auto 1/1,” sold for over 4 million dollars! Can you believe that? That’s when I realized, this isn’t just some casual hobby; this is a whole different world.
I learned that rookie cards usually have some kind of “RC” label on them. They were from 2017. And there are tons of them! Apparently, there are almost 10,000 Mahomes cards in some database, and over 1,400 of them are rookie cards. So, I figured, I have some options.

My Hunt Begins
I decided to check out some local card shops. I figured it would be a good place to start, maybe talk to some experts, see some cards in person. I drove around to a couple of places. The first shop, the guy was super helpful. He showed me a few Mahomes rookies, but they were way out of my price range. The second shop, not so much. The guy there barely looked up from his phone. Not the best experience.
Feeling a little discouraged, I decided to try online. Maybe I could find a better deal or something. I spent hours looking at different cards, reading descriptions, comparing prices. It was a lot to take in. There are so many variations, different conditions, different everything! It was kind of overwhelming, to be honest.
Success, Finally!
But I kept at it. I set some filters, narrowed down my search. Finally, I found one that seemed promising. It wasn’t one of those super expensive ones, but it was still a Mahomes rookie, and it was in pretty good shape. It was a “2017-18 Prizm Silver #269”. I compared it to some others, read some more about it, and decided to go for it. I placed my bid, and a few days later, I won! I was pretty stoked, not gonna lie. I paid for the card, and after waiting impatiently for another several days finally, I received the card. Holding it in my hands, it felt pretty amazing.
So yeah, that’s my story of getting into the world of Patrick Mahomes rookie cards. It was definitely a learning experience. A little frustrating at times, but ultimately, really rewarding. Now, I’ve got this cool piece of sports history, and I’m thinking, maybe this is just the beginning. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a little collection.
- Lesson 1: Do your research! There’s a lot to learn about sports cards.
- Lesson 2: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Some people are super knowledgeable and willing to share.
- Lesson 3: Be patient. Finding the right card takes time.
It is not just cards. It is about history, sports and the fun of hunting. So I shared my experience here, hope my experience can help you if you have the same idea.
