Okay, so the other day I decided I wanted to make a 49ers blanket. I’m a huge fan, and what’s better than snuggling up with a homemade blanket during the game? Nothing, I tell ya! So, I started this whole process, and let me walk you through it.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what kind of blanket I wanted. Fleece? Quilted? I’m no sewing expert, so I needed something relatively simple. I decided to go with a tied fleece blanket. Seemed easy enough, right?
Gathering Supplies
Next up, I needed supplies. I went down to my local fabric store, which, by the way, can be totally overwhelming! So many colors, patterns… Anyway, I focused.

- Red fleece: Got a couple of yards of this. Gotta have that classic 49ers red!
- Gold fleece: Same amount as the red. Needed that gold accent.
- Scissors: Sharp ones! Because dull scissors are the enemy.
- Ruler or measuring tape: For, you know, measuring.
The Process
Alright, time to get down to business. I laid out both pieces of fleece on my living room floor, making sure they were lined up nicely. Then, I trimmed the edges so they were the same size. (My cutting skills aren’t perfect, so this took a bit of fiddling.)
Now for the fun part – making the fringe! I used my ruler and scissors to cut strips along all four sides of the fleece. Each strip was about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. It took a while, but it was kinda therapeutic, like, in a repetitive-task kind of way.
Once all the fringe was cut, I started tying the strips together. Top layer to bottom layer, in a simple knot. This is what holds the whole blanket together! I just kept tying, knot after knot, all the way around. Let’s be real, my hands got a little tired, but I powered through. Put on some music, had a snack break – you know the drill.
The Finished Product
After what felt like forever (but was probably just a few hours), I tied the last knot. And there it was! My very own, slightly imperfect, but totally awesome 49ers fleece blanket. It’s super soft and cozy, and perfect for game day.

Was it perfect? Nope. Were there some uneven fringes? Probably. But I made it myself, and that’s what counts! It’s got that handmade charm, you know? Plus, it’s a 49ers blanket, so automatically, it’s amazing. Go Niners!
