Okay, so I was messing around with numbers the other day, and I got curious about what number sits right in the middle of 48 and 63. It’s a simple question, but I wanted to walk through my process.
My First Thought: Just Eyeball It
First, I tried to just guess. I figured the middle number had to be somewhere in the 50s. It’s kind of like trying to find the middle of a room by just looking – you get a general idea, but it’s not precise.
Getting a Bit More Precise: Average
Then I remembered the good old average. You know, add the two numbers together and divide by two. So, I did that:

- 48 + 63 = 111
- 111 / 2 = 55.5
See, 55.5. That’s the exact middle! I was pretty happy with that. It made sense. It’s not a whole number, because of the spread of the numbers, it is in the middle.
Double-Checking My Work
Just to be sure, I thought about it another way. I figured out the difference between 63 and 48, which is 15. Half of that difference is 7.5. Then I added and substracted 7.5 and check the middle:
- 48 + 7.5 = 55.5.
- 63 – 7.5 = 55.5.
Yep, 55.5 again! I love it when things work out like that. It’s a little confirmation that I didn’t mess up the math somewhere.
So, there you have it. 55.5 is smack-dab in the middle of 48 and 63. I went through a few different ways of thinking about it, just to be sure, and it all checked out.
It was fun experiment!
