Okay, so I wanted to mess around with some baseball data, specifically the 2014 New York Mets roster. It’s not exactly a glamorous project, but hey, I was curious!
Digging for Data
First thing I did was try to find the information. I’m not gonna lie, I just went straight to looking for it. I figured somewhere out there had this info in an easy-to-grab format.
Wrangling the Roster
Once I found a good source, it was time to get my hands dirty. I mean, It wasn’t super complicated, just a basic list.

So, the roster, It was long, and I needed to organize it. I thought about it this way:
- Pitchers: These are the guys throwing the ball. Gotta have a bunch of them.
- Catchers: The dudes squatting behind home plate.
- Infielders: First base, second base, shortstop, third base – you know the drill.
- Outfielders: The guys roaming the grassy outfield.
I manually went through the list, making sure I categorized everyone right. It felt a bit tedious, but it was important to get it accurate. I kept double-checking, making sure I didn’t put a pitcher in the outfield or something silly like that!
Putting It All Together
I mean that how I put together a simple breakdown of the 2014 Mets roster. No fancy tools, just some good old-fashioned elbow grease and a text editor. Sometimes, the simplest way is the best way, right?
