Okay, so today I tried this thing, “170/4”. Sounds weird, right? I was just messing around, trying to see if I could make something cool happen, you know, as always. First off, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Nothing fancy, just regular stuff.
I started by, well, you guessed it, dividing 170 by 4. It is my habbit to do calculation by paper, I like it. I kinda knew it wouldn’t be a perfect whole number, but that was part of the fun.
The Process
- Step 1: Wrote down 170 and 4, drawing those division lines we all learned in school. Old school.
- Step 2: Started working it out. 4 goes into 17 four times, so I wrote down a ‘4’ above the 7.
- Step 3: 4 times 4 is 16. Subtracted that from 17, leaving me with 1.
- Step 4: Brought down the 0, making it 10.
- Step 5: 4 goes into 10 two times. Wrote down a ‘2’ next to the ‘4’. Now, it is ’42’.
- Step 6: 2 times 4 is 8. Subtracted 8 from 10, got 2.
- Step 7: It’s a remainder! I could add a decimal and keep going, but I just left it as ‘remainder 2’.
So, the answer I got was 42 with a remainder of 2. Or, if you want to be all fancy, 42.5. Nothing groundbreaking, I know. But it was a good little mental exercise, and it made me think about how sometimes the simplest things can be kind of interesting if you just take the time to do them.

I am a person who likes to keep my brain work, even on little things.
This kind of practice is useful for me.
