Man, I gotta share this little project I did. It’s all about NBA team logos, you know, tracking how they’ve changed over the years. I’m a huge basketball fan, and I always thought it would be cool to have all that info in one place.
Getting Started
First, I brainstormed what I actually needed. It couldn’t just be a bunch of pictures, right? It needed some order. So, I decided I wanted the team name, the years each logo was used, and, obviously, the logo image itself.
Finding the Data
This was the tricky part. I started by just Googling around, looking at different fan sites and stuff. I found some decent info, but nothing really complete. Then I stumbled onto a few sports history websites that had bits and pieces. It was like putting together a puzzle!

Organizing My Data
I needed a way to keep everything straight. I opted for a simple spreadsheet. Nothing fancy, just columns for the team name, years active, and a spot for the image file name. Then, I started copying and pasting info into my spreadsheet. It was tedious, for sure, but seeing it all come together was pretty satisfying.
Getting The Images
- I went back to those websites and started saving the logo images.
- I made sure to name the files in a way that made sense, like “teamname_*”. Keeps things tidy, you know?
- Some of the older logos were tough to find in good quality. I spent a good chunk of time just hunting down decent versions.
Putting it All Together
Once I had all the images and data, I decided how to present the images. I thought about making a fancy website, but I figured, let’s keep it simple for now. I basically just have a folder with all the images, and my spreadsheet acts like an index. I can quickly look up a team, see the years, and then find the corresponding logo image.
What I Learned
It’s a lot of work to gather historical data, even for something as seemingly simple as sports logos! It showed me the value of good organization, and how much information is scattered across the internet. But it was cool. I felt like a basketball historian for a little while there!
