Okay, so I finally did it. I packed up my life in Georgia and headed for Nebraska. It was a HUGE decision, and honestly, I was a nervous wreck about the whole thing.
Getting Started
First things first, I had to figure out where in Nebraska I even wanted to be. Georgia is pretty diverse, you’ve got your city life in Atlanta, the coast, the mountains… Nebraska? It’s a bit more… consistent. I spent hours scrolling through online listings, looking at pictures of small towns and farms. It was overwhelming!
I started by making a list of what I absolutely needed. A decent internet connection was top of the list (gotta have my Netflix!), and I wanted to be within a reasonable driving distance of a grocery store. Sounds basic, I know, but some of those places are REALLY out there.

The Actual Move
Then came the fun part – packing. Ugh. I swear, I own way more stuff than I thought I did. I spent weeks sorting through everything, donating what I could, and trying to cram the rest into boxes. It was chaos.
- Tip #1: Get way more boxes than you think you need. Seriously.
- Tip #2: Label EVERYTHING. Future you will thank you.
- Tip #3: Don’t pack your coffee maker last. Just don’t.
I ended up hiring a moving company, because, let’s be real, I wasn’t about to drive a U-Haul across the country by myself. It was expensive, but worth every penny for my sanity. Watching them load everything up was surreal. Like, “Wow, this is actually happening.”
Settling In
The drive itself was… long. Lots of cornfields. Lots of cows. But also, some surprisingly beautiful sunsets. Once I got to my new place, it was all about unpacking and trying to make it feel like home. Took a few trips to the local hardware store for random things I’d forgotten, and a whole lot of rearranging furniture.
Honestly, the people here have been incredibly welcoming. It’s a much slower pace of life than I’m used to, but I’m starting to appreciate it. Still getting used to the quiet, though. And the wind. So. Much. Wind.
It’s been a wild ride, and I’m still figuring things out, but so far, so good. Nebraska, you’re definitely growing on me.
