Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get back in shape, and I remembered how much I loved gymnastics as a kid. I figured, why not give it a shot again? I live near the North Shore, so I searched for “north shore gymnastics” to see what was around.
I started by looking at a few websites. Some places looked super intense, all about competition and stuff. Others seemed more geared towards little kids. I wanted something in the middle, you know? A place where I could work on getting stronger and more flexible, but without feeling like I was training for the Olympics.
I ended up finding a place that had adult classes a couple of times a week. Perfect! I called them up and chatted with a really nice lady who answered all my questions. She explained that the classes were for all levels, from total beginners to people who’d done gymnastics before.

So, I signed up for a trial class. I was nervous, I’m not gonna lie! I hadn’t done a cartwheel in like, 20 years. But I went anyway. I put on some workout clothes and headed over.
My First Class Back
The gym was huge! Mats everywhere, balance beams, bars… it was a little overwhelming. But the instructor was great. He showed us the basics, like how to warm up properly and do some simple stretches.
Then get this:
- We did some basic tumbling, like forward rolls and, yes, cartwheels!
- Tried a bit on the balance beam. I was tottaly shaking like a leaf
- Some conditioning exercises.
I was definitely the most awkward one there, haha. But everyone was super supportive. It was a real mix of ages and abilities, which made me feel better. By the end of the class, I was exhausted, but in a good way. My muscles were sore, but I felt like I’d actually accomplished something.
I’ve decided to keep going. It’s a fun way to exercise, and it’s way more interesting than just going to the regular gym. Plus, it’s kind of cool to be learning (or re-learning) these skills. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to do a handstand again!

I will share my experience in next * must be funny!
