Okay, so I saw this “589 7 10 renault engine” thing pop up, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” I’m no mechanic, but I do like messing around with stuff, so I decided to dig in.
First, I googled the whole phrase. Nothing super clear came up, just bits and pieces about Renault engines. It seemed like some kind of engine code or part number, but I wasn’t sure.
Figuring Out the Numbers
I decided to break it down. Maybe each number meant something different.

- 589: This seemed like the main code. More googling with “Renault engine 589” started to show some results. I saw some forum posts and a few parts websites mentioning it. It looked like it might be related to an older Renault engine, maybe from the 80s or 90s.
- 7 & 10: These were tougher. I thought maybe they were version numbers, or some kind of sub-designation. I tried searching for “Renault engine 589 7” and “Renault engine 589 10” separately. Still not much luck. It felt like I was missing a piece of the puzzle.
I spent a good hour just going down rabbit holes, reading old forum posts where people were talking about classic Renaults. I started to get a vague idea that this might be related to an engine used in cars like the Renault 5 or maybe some of their older vans, things using carburetors.
Hitting a Wall (and Then…)
Honestly, I almost gave up. It felt like I was searching for something super obscure. But then, I tried one last thing. I looked for images of “Renault engine 589”.
Bingo! I started seeing pictures of engine blocks with that number stamped on them. And next to the 589, I’d often see smaller numbers, like 7 and then some other stuff. It still didn’t explain exactly what “7” and “10” designated and I couldn’t find a clear information about what “7” and “10” means, but I at least felt like I was on the right track.
It is related an older, carbureted Renault engine!
That’s it! All I did and figured out.
