Okay, so today I decided to tackle a “paid leave crossword”. I’ve been seeing these things pop up all over, and I figured, why not give it a shot? It seemed like a fun little brain teaser, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good crossword?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a crossword. I just did a quick search and a bunch of options came up. I picked one that looked reasonably challenging but not, like, impossible. I printed it out because I’m old-school and like to have a physical copy to work with. You know, actually use a pen and paper and feel like I am doing somthing.
Diving In
I grabbed my favorite pen, sat down at my kitchen table, and got to work. Some of the clues were pretty straightforward. I started by filling in all the answers I knew right away. This is my usual strategy – get the easy ones out of the way and build some momentum.

- I scanned the clues to find the short words, usually 3 or 4 letters are quick wins!
- I filled them in to get some letters to help with the more tricky clues.
The Struggle is Real
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were a few clues that totally stumped me. Like, I had to really rack my brain, and even then, I wasn’t 100% sure. I find that subject crosswords such as ‘paid leave’ can be very difficult without deep subject knowledge.
- For the tricky ones, I tried to think of synonyms or related words.
- Sometimes, I’d just write down a guess, knowing I might have to erase it later.
- I kept going back and forth, filling in a letter here, a word there, as things started to click.
Victory!
Finally, after a bit of perseverance (and maybe a little bit of peeking at the answers… don’t judge!), I managed to complete the whole thing! It felt pretty darn good to see all those boxes filled in. And that’s basically all the process I go through!
It’s definitely a nice way to give your brain a little workout, and this “paid leave” theme was surprisingly educational,I must say.
