Okay, so “JV Varsity” – sounds kinda basic, right? But let me tell you, it was a whole journey for me. I wanted to get a better handle on, you know, actually doing stuff instead of just reading about it. So, I decided to tackle this concept, thinking it’d be a quick thing. Boy, was I wrong (in a good way!).
I started by just trying to understand what the heck it even really meant. Not just the dictionary definition, but like, the feel of it. I spent a good chunk of time just Googling, reading forum posts, and watching some videos. Mostly just trying to soak it all in, you know?
Digging In
Then came the messy part. I decided I needed to actually do something, not just think about it. I figured the best way to get a feel for “JV” level was to try a project that was slightly above my comfort zone, but not, like, impossible. I picked something I’d been putting off – building a simple website, nothing too fancy. I just wanted to try.

- First, I sketched out some really rough ideas on paper. Just, like, boxes and arrows, nothing pretty.
- Then, I spent hours (and I mean hours) wrestling with basic HTML and CSS. It was frustrating, I’m not gonna lie. Lots of looking things up, lots of trial and error.
- I kept hitting roadblocks. Stuff that seemed simple in tutorials just…wouldn’t…work. I’d get stuck, get annoyed, take a break, then come back and try again.
The “Aha!” Moments
But, slowly, things started to click. I started to see how the different pieces fit together. There were these little “aha!” moments when I’d finally figure out why something wasn’t working, and it was so satisfying. I learned more from those mistakes than I ever did from just reading.
I’m still not finished with the project, to be honest. It’s definitely “JV Varsity” level. It’s not perfect, it’s a little clunky, but it’s mine. And I built it from scratch. And that’s the whole point, right? To actually do the thing, even if it’s not perfect, even if it’s a little rough around the edges. That’s how you really learn. I can honestly say that even this simple project taught me so much than a lot of the time that I’ve spent on studying.
