Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my golf clubs again – surprise, surprise! This time, it’s all about those John Catlin iron shafts. I heard some chatter about them, and you know me, I gotta try things out for myself.
First, I grabbed my old set of irons. Nothing fancy, just your standard, run-of-the-mill clubs. I took them out to the range a few times, just to get a good baseline feel. You know, how far I was hitting them, how consistent my shots were – the usual stuff. I even jotted down some notes, like a real pro (haha!).
The Swap
Then came the fun part – swapping out the shafts. Man, let me tell you, getting those old shafts out was a bit of a pain. I used this little tool –a shaft puller and it finally worked, I definitely didn’t want to mess up my clubs.

Once I got the old ones out, putting the John Catlin shafts in was a breeze, comparatively. I made sure everything was snug and tight, no wobbly bits.
- Took out old shafts (struggled a bit).
- Put in the new John Catlin shafts.
- Made sure it’s all tight!
Back to the Range
Of course, the real test was taking these bad boys back to the range. I warmed up with a few swings, and honestly, I could feel a difference right away. It’s hard to explain, but the clubs just felt… smoother? Like, the ball jumped off the clubface a little easier.
I spent a good hour just hitting balls, trying to get a feel for the new shafts. I noticed I was getting a bit more distance, maybe 5-10 yards on average. But more importantly, my shots seemed more consistent. Fewer wild slices, fewer embarrassing hooks. My dispersion was improved, I think.
The Verdict (So Far)
So, after a few range sessions and even a quick 9-hole round, what do I think? I’m digging them! I’m still no pro golfer, but the John Catlin shafts definitely seem to be helping my game. They’re not magic, but they’ve added a little extra “oomph” and consistency to my shots.

I’ll keep playing with them and see how they hold up over time. But for now, I’m giving them a thumbs up. If you’re thinking about trying new shafts, these might be worth a look! Just remember, it’s all about finding what works best for your swing.
