Okay, so today I messed around with making a beanie, specifically a “ja mont” style beanie. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a wild ride.
First off, I grabbed some yarn I had lying around. Nothing fancy, just some basic stuff. Then I needed to find my knitting needles. After rummaging through my craft box for what felt like forever, I finally found them. I dusted them off and got ready to go.
Getting Started
I started by casting on some stitches. I had to look up a tutorial online because, honestly, I couldn’t remember how many to cast on for a beanie. It’s been a while since I last knitted anything.

Once I got the hang of it, I started knitting in the round. It was a bit tricky at first, my hands felt clumsy, and the needles kept slipping. But I kept at it, row after row. The yarn felt nice and soft between my fingers, though.
The Middle Part
This part was pretty monotonous. Just knit, knit, knit. I put on some music to keep myself entertained. My cat decided to join in and “help” by batting at the yarn, which was both cute and annoying. She also tried to sit on my work a few times. What a goofball.
- Round 1: Knit all stitches.
- Round 2: Knit all stitches, again.
- Round 3: And, you guessed it, knit all stitches.
I kept going until the beanie was long enough to cover my ears. I tried it on a few times to make sure it was fitting right. It was starting to look like an actual hat!
The Tricky Part
Now came the decreasing part. I had to decrease stitches evenly to shape the top of the beanie. I messed up a few times and had to undo some rows, which was frustrating. But I finally figured it out after re-watching a part of the tutorial I used to get started.
Finishing Up
Once I finished the decreasing, I cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. I threaded the tail through the remaining stitches and pulled it tight to close the top of the beanie. Then, I weaved in the ends to make it all neat and tidy.

And there it was, my very own “ja mont” style beanie! It’s not perfect, but I made it myself, and that’s pretty cool. It’s warm and comfy, and I’m actually kind of proud of it. Maybe I’ll make another one sometime, but for now, I’m just happy to have a new hat to wear.
