Yesterday, a few buddies and I got together to play a round of golf. We decided to try something a little different called a “shamble”, and let me tell you, it was a blast!
First, we picked teams. We had a group of six, so we split into two teams of three. It was pretty easy, just drawing names out of a hat. With our teams sorted, we were ready to hit the course.
Next, we teed off. Everyone hit their drive, and this is where the “shamble” part comes in. We looked at all the drives, and we picked the best one. For example, on the first hole, my drive was terrible, John’s was okay, but Steve absolutely crushed his. So, naturally, we went with Steve’s drive.

After we found the best drive, each of us moved our ball to that spot. And from there, we each played our own ball for the rest of the hole. This was the fun part! We all got to start from a great position thanks to the awesome drive.
- We walked down the fairway.
- We hit our second shots, third shots and so on, all individually.
- We counted our strokes just like regular golf.
- Finally we wrote down our scores on the scorecard.
We repeated this process for all 18 holes. It was really cool because we all got to benefit from each other’s good drives. It made the game a bit easier, especially for those of us who aren’t exactly pros.
At the end of the round, we added up the scores for each team. My team ended up winning, but honestly, it didn’t really matter. We all had such a good time playing the shamble format. We were laughing, cheering each other on, and just enjoying the beautiful day. It was a great way to mix things up and try something new on the golf course. We decided to play shamble again next time!
