So, yesterday I got invited to play a round of golf with some friends, and we decided to try out this thing called a “Shamble”. I had heard of it before, but never really knew what it was all about. Turns out, it’s a pretty cool format that mixes things up a bit from your regular round of golf.
We started off the day like any other golf outing, heading to the first tee box. The weather was decent, a bit overcast, but hey, no rain, right? Everyone was in good spirits, cracking jokes and getting warmed up.
Now, here’s where the Shamble part comes in. We all teed off as usual, just like a normal round of golf. But, after that first shot, that’s when things changed. We walked down the fairway and found the best drive out of our group. And guess what? That became the spot where we all played our second shots from. Yep, everyone hit from the same location!

- It felt a bit weird at first, all of us hitting from the same spot.
- We were all trying not to mess with each other’s stances and had to move clubs and bags out of the way.
After that second shot, it was back to normal golf rules. We each played our own ball from wherever it landed until we holed out. So, basically, it’s like a scramble for the first shot, then stroke play for the rest of the hole.
It was a lot of fun trying something new!
We continued like this for all 18 holes. It was a nice change of pace. You got the advantage of using the best drive, which usually meant a shorter approach shot. But then, you still had to rely on your own game to finish out the hole. And, it definitely sped up the pace of play since we weren’t searching for balls all over the place.
My final score? Well, let’s just say it wasn’t my best, but it wasn’t my worst either! But the point wasn’t really about the score, it was more about having fun with my buddies and trying a new format. We finished the round, grabbed some food, and recounted some of the good, the bad, and the ugly shots. We even decided that we should play a Shamble again sometime soon.
I recommend giving it a shot if you’re looking to spice things up a little. I definitely had a good time and I think you will, too.
