Okay, so I saw this thing online about a “flexible gymnastics move” from the NYT, and I thought, “Hey, I wanna try that!” I’m not a gymnast or anything, but I’ve always been kinda flexible, so I figured, why not give it a shot?
First, I looked up what this “flexible gymnastics move” was all about. Turns out, it’s a crossword clue, and people online were saying the answer could be something like a SPLIT, a FLIP, or a ROLL. I know what a split is, but a flip? That sounded way too intense for me. A roll seemed more my speed, so I decided to focus on that.
Before I did anything, I knew I had to warm up. I put on some music and did some jumping jacks, ran in place for a bit, you know, just to get my blood pumping. Then, I did some stretches. I stretched out my legs, my arms, my back, just trying to loosen up everything.

Here’s what I did to practice:
- Forward Roll: I started with a basic forward roll. I squatted down, tucked my chin to my chest, and rolled forward, trying to keep my body nice and round. I did this a few times, just to get the hang of it.
- Backward Roll: Then I thought I would try a backward roll. This one was a little trickier. I squatted down with my back towards the direction I was going to roll, put my hands near my ears, tucked my head, and pushed with my hands to roll backward. It was a little scary, but I did it!
After practicing rolls, I felt a bit more confident. I moved on to some stretches that would help with splits, just in case I decided to be brave later. I did some lunges, holding each one for about 30 seconds. Then, I sat on the floor with my legs spread as wide as I could comfortably go and leaned forward, trying to touch my toes. Ouch, that was a bit tough, but I could feel the stretch.
Finally, after all that warming up and practicing, I took a deep breath and tried to do a full split. I slowly lowered myself down, keeping my hands on the floor for support. And guess what? I did it! I actually did a split! It wasn’t perfect, and I definitely felt the stretch, but I was so proud of myself. I kept practicing the splits for each leg.
So, yeah, that’s my story of trying out this “flexible gymnastics move” thing. It was a fun little challenge, and it was cool to see what my body could do. I’m definitely going to keep stretching and practicing, maybe one day I’ll be able to do those crazy flips, who knows?
