Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out a fake ponytail for a while, you know, just to switch things up. My hair’s kinda medium length, and sometimes I just want that long, flowing look without the commitment of extensions. So, I finally did it! Here’s how it all went down.
Getting Started
First, I needed the actual ponytail, right? I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, So I picked one up. I made sure to choose a color that was a pretty close match to my natural hair – I didn’t want it to be super obvious, although perfect accuracy isn’t necessary.
The Process
I started by pulling my own hair back into a ponytail. I made sure it was pretty tight and secure because that’s the base that’s gonna hold the fake one. And I also made sure it located in the middle of my head’s back.

- Step 1: My Own Ponytail. Like I said, nice and tight. I used a regular hair tie, nothing fancy.
- Step 2: Attaching the Beast. This was a little tricky at first. The fake ponytail had this little comb thingy and a drawstring. I slid the comb into the top of my own ponytail, right above the hair tie.
- Step 3: Tightening it Up. Once the comb was in, I pulled the drawstring tight. This kinda cinches the fake ponytail around your real one. I wrapped the drawstring around a couple of times to make sure it was really secure.
- Step 4: Blending time. The fake ponytail piece has a section of hair at last, and I use it cover my own ponytail to make it more natural.
The Final Touches
Once it was all secure, I did a little fluffing and adjusting. I used my fingers to kinda blend my real hair with the fake hair at the top, so you couldn’t see where one ended and the other began. I might’ve even used a little hairspray to keep everything in place, especially those little flyaway hairs.
I have to say, I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It definitely gave me that longer hair look I was going for, and it wasn’t too hard to do. It’s not something I’d wear every day, but it’s a fun option for when I want to feel a little extra, you know?
If you’re thinking about trying a fake ponytail, I’d say go for it! Just practice a few times, and don’t be afraid to mess around with it until you get the hang of it. It’s all about having fun with your hair, right?
