Okay, so, today I wanna talk about something I’ve been digging into lately – Cotton Owens and his race cars. This whole thing started when I stumbled upon some old racing footage. I mean, I’ve always been a fan of vintage stuff, but this was different. There was this guy, Cotton Owens, tearing up the track in these incredible machines, and I just had to know more.
So, I started digging. First, just some simple searches, you know, to get the basics. Who was Cotton Owens? What did he drive? When did he race? Found out he was a big deal back in the day, a real NASCAR legend. Won a bunch of races, even the Daytona 500.
- Cotton Owens, NASCAR legend.
- Won Daytona 500.
- Raced in the 50s and 60s.
Then I moved on to looking for pictures of his cars. Man, those things were beautiful. Sleek, powerful, definitely built for speed. I spent hours just scrolling through images, comparing different models, noticing the changes over the years.

I started making a list of the different cars he raced, trying to piece together a timeline. It was like a puzzle, figuring out which car he drove in which race. Some of the information was a bit spotty, had to cross-reference a few sources to make sure I had it right. I created a simple table to sort things out.
- 1957 Pontiac.
- 1958 Pontiac.
- 1960 Pontiac.
- 1961 Pontiac.
- 1962 Pontiac.
- 1963 Plymouth.
- 1964 Dodge.
Then I decided I wanted to know more about the specs of these cars. What kind of engines did they have? What kind of modifications did Cotton make? This was tougher. Lots of technical jargon that I didn’t really understand. I actually spent a good chunk of time just trying to figure out what some of these terms meant.
I decided to focus on one particular car – his 1964 Dodge. This was the car he won the Daytona 500 with, so it seemed like a good one to start with. I managed to find some old articles about the car, and even a few interviews with Cotton himself talking about the modifications he made. I learned that he was a big fan of Hemis.
Finally, I tried to find some videos of Cotton racing these cars. This was the best part. Seeing these beauties in action, hearing the roar of the engines, watching Cotton maneuver them around the track – it was like stepping back in time.
So, yeah, that’s been my journey into the world of Cotton Owens and his race cars. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve learned a ton. Still feel like I’ve only scratched the surface, though. There’s so much more to explore, and I’m excited to keep digging. I might even try to find some scale models of these cars. That would be pretty sweet.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed hearing about my little adventure. Maybe it’ll inspire you to do some digging of your own. You never know what cool stuff you might find!
