Okay, so I got braces a few months ago, and let me tell you, the first few weeks were rough. I was all about soup and mashed potatoes. But then, my love for steak started calling. I mean, who doesn’t love a good, juicy steak? So, I started my little experiment: Can I actually eat steak with these metal things in my mouth?
My Steak-Eating Journey with Braces
First Attempt: Disaster. I tried to just go for it like I normally would, big mistake. I took a bite, and ouch! It felt like my teeth were going to pop off. Chewing was a nightmare. I ended up swallowing this big chunk almost whole. Not fun, and definitely not recommended.
Second Attempt: Slightly Better. I decided I needed a new strategy. I cooked a steak, making sure it was super tender, medium-rare, you know, melt-in-your-mouth kind of deal. Then, I grabbed a knife and cut it into the tiniest pieces you can imagine. Like, smaller than bite-sized. Think “steak confetti.”

- Cut, Cut, Cut: Seriously, the smaller, the better.
- Chew Slowly: I focused on using my back teeth, the molars, and chewed very, very slowly.
- Avoid the Front Teeth: I tried my best not to use my front teeth at all. Those are the ones with the most pressure from the braces.
Third Attempt: Success! I kept practicing the tiny-pieces-and-slow-chewing method. And guess what? It worked! It wasn’t the same as before braces, but I could actually enjoy the steak. No pain, no feeling like my teeth were going to fall out. I also found that some cuts of steak are easier than others. Like, a filet mignon is way easier to handle than, say, a tougher cut like a flank steak.
My Steak-Eating Tips with Braces
So, here’s the deal.
- First I cook the steak.
- Then I always cut the steak very small.
- Finally I can happily eat the steak.
You can eat steak with braces, but you gotta be smart about it. Super small pieces, slow chewing, and choosing the right cut of meat are your best friends. It takes some getting used to, but trust me, it’s possible to satisfy that steak craving, even with a mouthful of metal!
