Okay, here’s my blog post about Cowboy Bill Watts, and whether or not he played for the Indianapolis Warriors, written in the style of a personal, informal blog:
So, I started down this rabbit hole today, all thanks to a random trivia question that popped into my head: Did Cowboy Bill Watts ever play for the Indianapolis Warriors? I figured, hey, I’m pretty good with wrestling history, but this one had me stumped. I mean, Watts is a legend, but the Indianapolis Warriors? That sounded like a deep cut, even for me.
My Deep Dive Begins
First, I hit up my usual wrestling forums. You know, the places where people debate the merits of kayfabe and whether or not that one match in ’87 was a shoot. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. A couple of folks chimed in with “I think so?” but no one had anything concrete.

So I started digging through online sports articles and history. I found a lot of dead ends and plenty of sites.
- I scrolled through old newspaper scans, hoping for a mention. My eyes were practically crossing by the time I called it quits on that.
- I tried every search term I could think of: “Bill Watts Indianapolis,” “Cowboy Bill Watts football,” “Indianapolis Warriors roster”… you name it, I typed it.
False Trails and Red Herrings
I found a couple of mentions of a “Bill Watts” associated with football in Indianapolis, but they were clearly different people. One was a high school coach, another was a ref. My hopes were starting to dwindle. I even started to question if the “Indianapolis Warriors” was a real team! I mean, it sounds like something out of a video game, right?
The Conclusion (or Lack Thereof)
Honestly? After hours of searching, I’ve got nothing definitive. No evidence, no proof, and nothing to confirm that Cowboy Bill Watts ever laced up his boots for any team called the Indianapolis Warriors. But you know how these things go. There’s always that little voice in the back of your head saying, “Maybe I missed something…”
So, I’m throwing it out to you guys. Anyone out there have any solid info? A dusty old program? A grainy photo? A firsthand account from your grandpa who saw it all go down? Let me know in the comments! This mystery is still unsolved, as far as I’m concerned.
