Alright, let me tell you about the whole adventure of trying to get tickets for the Cowboys versus Steelers game. Man, that’s always a big one, right? You know the history, the rivalry. I just had to try and be there.
So, first thing I did, obviously, was jump online the second they supposedly went on sale. Checked the official NFL site, the Cowboys’ site, Ticketmaster… the usual suspects. Let me tell you, it was a madhouse. Gone. Like, instantly. Either “unavailable” or the only things popping up were these crazy expensive single seats way up in the nosebleeds. Forget about getting two or three together unless you wanted to sell a kidney.
Hitting the Resale Wall
Okay, plan B. The resale markets. StubHub, SeatGeek, Vivid Seats… you name it, I checked it. And wow. Just wow. The prices were astronomical. We’re talking hundreds, even thousands for decent spots. It really grinds my gears how that works. Real fans struggle, while bots and scalpers just scoop everything up. I spent a good couple of hours just clicking around, getting more and more frustrated. Started thinking maybe I’d just have to watch it at home like most years.

- Checked official team site – sold out.
- Checked Ticketmaster – mostly single seats or platinum pricing.
- Checked major resale sites – prices through the roof.
I was about ready to give up. Complaining about it to my wife, actually. She was probably tired of hearing it. Then, digging through an old box in the garage looking for something else entirely – I think it was some old fishing gear – I found this old address book. Flipping through it, I saw a name: Gary. Hadn’t talked to Gary in years. We used to work together way back, fixing machinery down at the old Miller plant before it closed. He was a die-hard Steelers fan, lived and breathed black and gold. Moved back to Pennsylvania ages ago.
A Long Shot Pays Off
On a total whim, I thought, what the heck? Found his number still listed there. Figured it was probably disconnected or changed, but I gave it a call. And you won’t believe it, he actually answered! Sounded exactly the same. We chatted for a bit, catching up. Turns out, he and his son had season tickets. And guess what? His son had a college thing that weekend, couldn’t make it to the Cowboys game. Gary wasn’t keen on going alone.
He offered me his son’s ticket, right next to him, for face value! Couldn’t believe my luck. Said he’d rather have a familiar face there, even if I was wearing blue and silver, than sell it to some stranger online. Said he’d leave it at will call under my name. Just like that. After all the stress with the online stuff, it came down to finding an old dusty address book and calling a number I hadn’t dialed in probably fifteen years.
So yeah, that’s how I managed it. Took a bit of luck, a bit of nostalgia, and reconnecting with an old buddy. Sometimes the direct route is blocked, and you just gotta take a weird detour. Felt pretty good, I gotta say. Now I just gotta prepare for Gary giving me grief the whole game. Should be fun.
