Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with this whole fantasy football thing again this year, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. This week, I was staring at my lineup, and it came down to a real head-scratcher: Caleb Williams or Baker Mayfield for my quarterback slot in Week 2.
First things first, I dove into the stats. I looked at everything – past performance, matchups, expert opinions…you name it. I spent hours, I mean hours, reading articles and watching videos, just trying to get a feel for who was going to get me more points. And it seemed like everyone and their grandma was high on Baker. Like, Baker was the clear choice for most, and some were even touting him as a “steal” of the draft.
Then, I started looking at Caleb Williams. I watched some of his college highlights, read up on his potential. The guy’s got talent, no doubt. But he’s a rookie, and that always makes me nervous. It was a tough call, seeing as how he was drafted first overall. I knew there was potential there, but also lots of uncertainty.

So, I went back and forth, back and forth. I even asked my buddies for their opinions, which, of course, only made things more confusing. One of them was all-in on Caleb, saying he was going to be a “league winner.” The other was firmly in the Baker camp, telling me I was crazy to even consider a rookie over a seasoned vet.
Finally, after a lot of thinking and a few sleepless nights, I made my decision. I went with Baker Mayfield. I trusted the experience and the favorable matchup he had in week 2.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Game day rolls around, and I’m glued to the TV. Baker starts off pretty slow, but then he heats up. He’s throwing touchdowns, racking up yards, and I’m feeling pretty good about my decision. Caleb, on the other hand, was also having a decent game, but not quite at Baker’s level.
In the end, Baker finished with a solid score, and he definitely outperformed Caleb this week. It was a relief, to say the least.
- I spent way too much time researching.
- I ignored most of the expert advice, well, at least the ones shouting about Caleb.
- I trusted my gut, even though it was a tough call.
- I watched way too much football that Sunday.
My Takeaway?
Going with the more experienced player paid off this time, but this whole fantasy football thing is unpredictable. Maybe next week, Caleb will explode, and I’ll be kicking myself. But for now, I’m happy with my win, and I’m already stressing about next week’s lineup.
