Okay, so I wanted to make a Dallas Cowboys pennant for my buddy’s birthday. He’s a HUGE fan, so I figured, why not? I’m pretty crafty, so I thought this would be a fun little project.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to get my materials together. Here’s what I ended up using:
- Felt: I grabbed some navy blue, silver, and white felt. You gotta have those Cowboys colors, right?
- Scissors: Obviously, to cut the felt.
- Hot Glue Gun: My best friend for any crafting project. I did consider sewing, but the glue gun is much faster.
- Wooden Dowel: This is what I used to hang the pennant.
- String or Yarn: To actually hang the pennant on the wall.
- Template I could buy templates online, but I try to made it by myself.
Making the Pennant
I started by cutting out a large triangle from the navy blue felt. This was the main body of the pennant. Then I used my template, sketched out a star on the silver felt, and carefully cut that out, it was harder than I thought it would be! After that, I cut out “COWBOYS” letters from the white felt, and the “DALLAS” is a smaller size than “COWBOYS”.

Next up, the fun part – gluing! I carefully hot-glued the star onto the center of the blue triangle, making sure it was nice and centered. and glued all the letters onto the triangle. I think that is the most difficult part for making this pennant. Then, I glued “DALLAS” on the left-top corner, and “COWBOYS” below the star, and the layout looks great.
Once the star was secure, I flipped the whole thing over and glued the wooden dowel to the top edge of the triangle, leaving a little bit of space on each side to tie the string. After that, I just tied some string to each end of the dowel, and voila! A hanging pennant.
Final Touches
Honestly, it turned out pretty awesome. The felt is nice and sturdy, and the colors are super vibrant. I think my buddy is going to love it. Maybe I’ll even make myself one next!
It’s a simple project, really. Anyone could do it, even if you’re not super crafty. Just grab some felt and a glue gun, and you’re good to go!
