Okay, so I was messing around with some NBA trade ideas, as one does, and I stumbled upon this interesting scenario: Brandon Ingram potentially getting traded by the Pelicans. Let me walk you through what I did.
First, I started by just browsing some NBA news and rumors. You know, checking out ESPN, Bleacher Report, a few blogs, and seeing what the general buzz was.
Then, I zeroed in on the New Orleans Pelicans. I was already thinking, “Hmm, they have Zion, CJ McCollum…where does Ingram fit long-term?”

- I pulled up Ingram’s stats. Good player, no doubt. Solid scorer, can handle the ball.
- But then I compared his stats and role to Zion and CJ. Seemed like maybe there’s some overlap, especially with Zion needing the ball so much.
Next, I tried to come up with some potential trade destinations. I looked at teams that might need a wing scorer, someone who can create their own shot.
I then Looked up those teams’s stats on several websites, and I find out some interesting thing. The number might not fit and needs to be re-constructed.
I played around with the ESPN Trade Machine, plugging in different players and picks. It’s not perfect, but it gives you a rough idea if a trade is even possible salary-wise.
Finally, I formulated some of my own mock trades. Nothing too crazy, just some “what if” scenarios. It was more about seeing if a trade could make sense for both sides.
It was a fun little exercise. It’s all just speculation, of course, but it gets you thinking about the possibilities. I am pretty sure that I successfully made it.
