Okay, so here’s the deal. I’ve been wanting to get into shape, like, for real this time. You know how it is, always saying you’re gonna do it, but then life happens. But I was scrolling through Insta the other day and saw this ad for women’s boxing classes and I thought, “Why not?” Seemed way more interesting than just hitting the treadmill again.
First thing I did was Google “womens boxing classes near me“. A bunch of places popped up, mostly local gyms and some specialized boxing studios. I checked out their websites, looked at the schedules, and compared prices. Some of them offered a free trial class, which was a huge plus.
I narrowed it down to three places that seemed promising. One was a gym that had a lot of different classes, boxing being just one of them. The second was a dedicated boxing gym that looked super intense, but also really cool. And the third was a smaller studio that focused specifically on women’s fitness, with a big emphasis on boxing.

I decided to try the free trial at the women’s only studio first. I figured it would be a good way to ease into things. So, I signed up online, which was super easy. They sent me a confirmation email with all the details, like what to wear (workout clothes and sneakers) and what to bring (water bottle and a towel).
The day of the class, I was kinda nervous, not gonna lie. I had no idea what to expect. I showed up a little early to get the lay of the land. The studio was clean and bright, with a boxing ring in the middle and punching bags all around the perimeter. There were already a few other women there, stretching and chatting.
The instructor was really friendly and welcoming. She introduced herself and asked if anyone was new to boxing. I raised my hand, and she gave me a quick rundown of the basics – stance, punches, footwork. Then she showed us how to wrap our hands, which was way harder than it looks on YouTube!
The class itself was a killer! We started with a warm-up, then moved on to learning basic punches – jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts. We practiced on the bags, then did some partner work, holding pads for each other. The instructor kept a close eye on everyone, correcting our form and encouraging us to push ourselves.
Honestly, I was exhausted by the end of it. But it was a good kind of exhausted. I felt strong and empowered. And I actually had a lot of fun! I even managed to land a few decent punches.

After the class, I talked to the instructor and asked about their membership options. They had a few different packages, ranging from pay-as-you-go to unlimited classes. I decided to sign up for a package of 10 classes. Figured that would give me enough time to see if I really liked it.
I’ve been going to the classes for a couple of weeks now, and I’m really enjoying it. I’m learning a lot, getting a great workout, and meeting some awesome women. My arms are sore, my abs are burning, and I’m starting to feel like a total badass.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
- Wrapping your hands properly is crucial. Otherwise, you’ll end up with sore wrists.
- Footwork is just as important as punching. You gotta stay light on your feet and move around the ring.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The instructors are there to guide you.
- Most importantly, have fun! Boxing is a great way to relieve stress and get in shape.
I’m still a beginner, but I’m committed to sticking with it. I’m hoping to improve my technique, build my strength, and maybe even compete in a sparring match someday. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be the next big thing in women’s boxing!
I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress. If you’re looking for a fun and challenging workout, I highly recommend giving women’s boxing classes a try. You might just surprise yourself!
