Okay, so I’ve been keeping tabs on NASCAR, and let me tell you, the 2023 season has been a wild ride, especially for AJ Allmendinger. I started following him a few years back, and this year, I decided to really dive deep and track his progress, mostly because he switched back to the Cup Series full-time.
At first, I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down his performance in each race. I noted his finishes, any major incidents, and his overall standing in the championship. It was pretty basic, but it helped me get a general sense of how he was doing.
Then, I thought, “Why not go digital?” So, I created a spreadsheet. This was a game-changer. I started tracking more detailed stats like his average running position, laps led, and even his pit stop times. I color-coded everything to make it easier to read. Green for good, red for, well, not so good.

- Race 1: Started tracking with a simple notebook.
- Race 5: Moved to a detailed spreadsheet, adding more stats.
- Race 10: Incorporated a visual chart to see trends.
I also started following some NASCAR analysts online to compare my notes with theirs. This helped me refine my tracking system even more. I added a section for notes on strategy calls and any comments from Allmendinger himself post-race. His win at the Charlotte Motor Speedway was wild, I even highlight it in my sheet.
Halfway through the season, I decided to visualize the data. I made a line graph showing his points progression throughout the season. It was so cool to see the ups and downs represented visually. You could really see the impact of his win at Charlotte.
But the end of the season got interesting. Allmendinger switched back to the Xfinity Series, It felt like all my tracking might have been for nothing but then he got some solid top-five finishes. I kept updating my spreadsheet, even though it was a different series. I just couldn’t stop, I was too invested!
The Big News
And then, BAM! News dropped on August 15th that Allmendinger is returning to the Cup Series with Kaulig Racing in 2025, driving the No. 16 car. This made all my efforts seem even more relevant. Now, I have this whole history of his performance leading up to his return. I feel like a real analyst, even though I’m just a regular fan with a detailed spreadsheet.
So, that’s my story of tracking AJ Allmendinger throughout the 2023 season and beyond. It started as a simple hobby and turned into a full-blown data project. Now I’m ready for 2025, with my spreadsheet and charts all set to go. Let’s see what he does back in the Cup Series!
