So, I got this idea in my head the other week. Doug Creek Baseball. Just popped in there. Remembered playing down there years ago, maybe after work or on a lazy Saturday. Felt like I wanted to recapture some of that, you know? Get the old glove out.
First thing I did, I actually drove over to where the Doug Creek fields used to be. Took me a bit to even pinpoint the exact spot, things look different now. Found it eventually. It’s still there, sort of. Looked a little… rough around the edges. Grass was high in spots, backstop looked rusty.
Finding info wasn’t easy.

I walked around, hoping maybe there’d be a sign, a schedule, anything. Nothing. Saw a guy walking his dog nearby, asked him if he knew about any baseball leagues. He just shrugged. Said sometimes people hit balls around, but didn’t know about anything official.
Went back home, decided to do some digging online. Almost nothing. Found an old forum post mentioning a phone number. Okay, worth a shot, right?
Getting Somewhere… Kinda
Called the number. Some fella answered, sounded like I woke him up. I asked about Doug Creek Baseball, if there were any teams, leagues, sign-ups.
- He paused for a long time.
- Asked me who I was.
- Then mumbled something about “pickup games sometimes”.
- Said maybe Tuesday evenings, if the weather’s good, and if enough guys feel like showing up.
It wasn’t exactly the organized thing I remembered. This whole experience trying to find a simple baseball game kinda reminded me of trying to get a straight answer about project deadlines at my old job. Remember Brenda in marketing? Asking her for the final copy date was like pulling teeth. You’d get three different dates, a maybe, and then radio silence. Yeah, felt a bit like that.
Anyway, this guy on the phone didn’t have much more info. No real league, no schedule, just a vague “maybe show up on Tuesday”.

So, what now?
Honestly, I’m not sure. Part of me still wants to just grab my glove and head down there next Tuesday, see what happens. Worst case, I throw a ball against the rusty backstop myself, right? But it’s not quite the nostalgia trip I was hoping for. Seems like Doug Creek Baseball, the way I knew it, might just be a memory now. Things change, people move on. Still, maybe I’ll check it out. Maybe.
