Alright, let’s talk about these LSU shoes I messed around with. It all started because I’m a sucker for a good deal, and I stumbled upon a pair of plain white sneakers for dirt cheap. Seeing as I bleed purple and gold, the idea just kinda hit me – LSU themed kicks!
First thing’s first, I grabbed some masking tape. This is key! You gotta tape off the areas you don’t want to get painted. I spent a good hour carefully outlining the soles, the tongue, and any other little bits I wanted to keep white. Patience is your friend here, trust me.
Next up, the paint. I went with acrylic paints. They’re pretty durable and easy to work with. I picked up a deep purple and a bright gold. I started with the purple, doing thin coats to avoid any globs or drips. I let each coat dry completely before adding another. Took about three coats to get a nice, even coverage.
Then came the gold. I wanted to add some stripes on the sides, so I carefully taped off the areas for those. Same process as before, thin coats, letting each one dry. The gold was a little trickier, it seemed to need more coats to really pop.
After the painting was done and everything was totally dry (I’m talking overnight dry), I peeled off the masking tape. This is the moment of truth! And… not gonna lie, there were a couple of spots where the paint had bled under the tape. Grrr.
But no worries, that’s where a fine-tipped brush and some white acrylic paint came to the rescue. I carefully touched up those little imperfections. Nobody’s gonna notice unless they’re looking really close.
To finish them off, I sprayed the shoes with a clear acrylic sealant. This helps protect the paint from scratches and wear and tear. Plus, it gives them a nice little shine.
And that’s it! My custom LSU shoes. They ain’t perfect, but they’re definitely one-of-a-kind. I’ve worn them to a couple of games, and they always get compliments. Plus, it’s just cool knowing I made them myself.

- Materials: White sneakers, masking tape, purple acrylic paint, gold acrylic paint, fine-tipped brush, white acrylic paint, clear acrylic sealant.
- Time: About 4-5 hours total, spread over a couple of days to allow for drying time.
- Lessons learned: Be extra careful with the masking tape, thin coats are your friend, and don’t be afraid to touch up mistakes.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! Maybe next time I’ll try adding some stencils or other designs. Geaux Tigers!
