So, I’d been thinking about getting a Patrick Mahomes card for a while. You see him everywhere, right? On TV, breaking records. Figured it’d be cool to have one, just something to represent his era in the game.
Started looking around online first. Man, there’s a ton out there. Some crazy expensive ones, others looked kinda sketchy, you know? You gotta be careful. Spent a few evenings just browsing different sites, seeing what was available. Then I decided to check out some physical places.
Went to a couple of local card shops over the weekend. Dug through boxes, flipped through binders. Talked to the owners and some other guys hanging around. It’s always interesting to hear what others are looking for. One shop had a few Mahomes cards, but they were either graded really high and expensive, or just base cards I wasn’t too excited about. Felt like I was hunting for treasure, but kept coming up empty-handed for what I specifically had in mind.

Then, browsing one night back online, I saw it. Not some super rare rookie card that costs a fortune – I wasn’t looking to break the bank. Just a nice clean one from a recent season, maybe a cool photo or a parallel version. It was a specific insert, one I liked the look of. Had a good action shot. Decided right then, that’s the kind of card I wanted to track down.
Found a seller who had that exact card listed. Wasn’t asking the moon for it, which was good. Looked like a regular person selling, not a huge dealer. Sent a message, asked a few questions about the condition, wanted to make sure the corners were sharp. They sent back some more pictures pretty quickly. Looked good.
Getting the Card
We haggled a little bit, back and forth through messages, nothing crazy. Just trying to land on a fair price. Finally settled on a number I was comfortable with. Made the payment through the platform we were using, easy enough. They said they’d ship it out the next day.
Waiting for it to arrive was the hardest part, always is with stuff you buy online. Checked the tracking number probably more than I should have. Finally, the small bubble mailer showed up in my mailbox. Felt pretty solid.

Opened it carefully right there in the kitchen. Didn’t want to damage anything. Pulled out the card, which was nicely protected in a top loader. There it was. Looked even better in person than in the pictures. Nice sharp colors.
What Now?
First thing I did? Took it out gently and put it in a magnetic one-touch case I had waiting. Gives it better protection and looks cleaner. Put it right on the shelf in my office where I can see it. It’s not about the money or investment potential for me, not really. It’s just cool to have a piece of memorabilia for a player you enjoy watching dominate the game.
- Started with an idea, seeing him play.
- Did some searching, online and offline.
- Found the specific one I liked.
- Made the deal with the seller.
- Got the card in the mail.
- Put it in a nice case.
Pretty straightforward, really, when you break it down. Glad I finally followed through and added one to my small collection. Just feels good to complete the little mission, even if it’s just getting a simple football card.
