Okay, so today I decided to dig into something I’ve been curious about for a while – the “1968 Willie Mays” baseball card. I’m no expert, but I’ve always loved the look of those old cards, and Mays is a legend, right?
Getting Started
First, I pulled up some images online. Just wanted to get a good look at the card itself. What year is it exactly? What condition are most of them in? That sort of thing.
I noticed right away that the design is pretty simple – a photo of Mays, his name, team, and position, and that classic Topps logo. The colors are a bit faded on most of the ones I saw, which makes sense given their age.

Deep Dive into Details
Then I started looking at some auction sites and collector forums. I wanted to see what these cards actually sell for. It’s a bit all over the place! Some are in rough shape and go for a few bucks, while others, the ones that are graded and in mint condition, those can go for hundreds, even thousands!
- Checked out a few grading guides. I’m learning about things like “centering,” “corners,” and “edges.” Apparently, tiny imperfections can make a huge difference in value.
- Read some stories from people who actually own the card. Some inherited them from their dads or grandfathers, others found them at flea markets or garage sales. Pretty cool!
My ‘Fake’ Find
I don’t have a real 1968 Willie Mays card,so I am going to buy it next month.
Wrapping Up
So, that was my little adventure into the world of the 1968 Willie Mays card. I definitely learned a lot more than I knew before. It is much easy to find and buy one card.I might even try to find one for myself someday, though probably not a super expensive one!
