Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “1996 penny” thing floating around, and I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m no coin expert, but I like trying new things, and hey, maybe I’d find a hidden treasure.
First, I grabbed a bunch of pennies. I didn’t have many lying around, so I actually went to the bank and got a few rolls. Felt a little silly, but whatever. It’s all part of the adventure, right?
The Hunt Begins
I spread all the pennies out on my kitchen table. It was a bigger pile than I expected! Then, I just started looking. One by one, I picked them up, checked the date, and… mostly found pennies that weren’t from 1996.

- Lots of 2010s.
- A surprising number of 2020s (guess they’re still pretty new).
- A few from the 80s, which felt kinda old.
Honestly, it got a little tedious. I mean, it’s just looking at pennies. But I kept going, hoping I’d stumble upon that special 1996 one.
After what felt like forever (probably about an hour), I finally found one! A 1996 penny! I held it up, examined it. It looked… like a regular penny. I guess I was expecting something to magically happen or something. Slightly anti-climactic.
So, yeah, that’s my 1996 penny experience. I found one, it was an okay way to spend an afternoon, but I don’t think I’ll be quitting my day job to become a professional penny hunter anytime soon.
