Okay, so I’ve been messing around with recreating some classic football kits, and I decided to tackle the Ajax 2003/04 away kit. It’s a pretty iconic design, and I wanted to see if I could pull it off.
Getting Started
First, I spent some time just looking at pictures of the original. I wanted to get a good feel for the colors, the layout, and all the little details. I noticed the main color is like a dark navy, almost black, with these bold red accents on the collar and sleeves. And of course, the sponsor logo is front and center.
The Design Process
Next, I started sketching out the basic shapes. I’m not a professional designer or anything, so I just did my best to get the proportions right. I focused on getting the collar right, because that sharp red V is super important to the overall look. Then I started blocking in the red stripes on the sleeves. It’s a simple design, really, but getting those details right makes all the difference.

- Finding the right shade of navy. It took a few tries to get it dark enough without being totally black.
- Getting the red accents to pop. I played around with different shades of red until I found one that looked just right against the navy.
- Placing the sponsor logo. I had to make sure it was centered and the right size.
- It’s pretty important to be patient, keep trying, and not be afraid to start over if something isn’t working.
Final Touches
After I was happy with the basic design, I added in some final touches. I made sure the lines were clean. It was a bit of a challenge, but it was totally worth it in the end.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it definitely captures the vibe of that classic Ajax away kit. It was a fun little project, and it reminded me how much I enjoy these kinds of creative challenges.
