Okay, so the other day I was trying to make this “home run hat” thing, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a ride. I saw some people showing these online, and thought, “Hey, I can probably do that!”
First, I gathered all the stuff I thought I’d need. I had these old baseball caps lying around from that time I thought I’d get into sports… didn’t happen. I also grabbed some fabric scraps, some of that puffy paint I used to customize t-shirts, and a hot glue gun, because let’s be real, hot glue fixes everything.
The Messy Part
- I started by ripping the brim off of one of the hats. It was tougher than I expected! I had to use some pliers.
- Then I tried to shape the fabric around the brim to make it look like, you know, a fancy, bigger brim. This was tricky. I kept messing up and the fabric wouldn’t stay put.
- Hot glue to the rescue! I started gluing the fabric down, bit by bit. It was a bit messy, and I definitely burned my fingers a couple of times. Note to self: hot glue is HOT.
After what felt like forever, I finally got the fabric to stay on the brim. It looked kind of lumpy, but hey, it was progress!

Next, I took the puffy paint and started decorating the new, larger brim. I was going for a kind of swirly, flame-like design, but honestly, it just looked like colorful blobs. My artistic skills are clearly not as good as I thought.
The Final (Ugly) Product
I let the paint dry, which took a while, because I probably put way too much on. Once it was dry, I attached the super-sized, puffy-painted brim back onto the original hat, using more hot glue, of course. And… well, it looked pretty ridiculous.
It wasn’t exactly the stylish “home run hat” I had envisioned. It was bulky, uneven, and the colors were kind of clashing. But, you know what? I made it. And I learned a few things along the way, mainly that I need to practice my crafting skills, and maybe invest in some heat-resistant gloves.
Would I wear it out in public? Probably not. But it’s a fun reminder of that time I tried to make something cool and ended up with a hilarious, slightly deformed hat. That’s all!
