Okay, so “Le Mans Daytona.” Sounds fancy, right? I’d heard about this combo – the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Rolex 24 at Daytona – being like, the ultimate endurance racing double. I decided to give it a shot, virtually, of course, in iRacing.
Getting Started
First, I picked my weapon of choice. After messing around with a few cars in practice sessions, I settled on the Porsche 963 GTP. It felt good, you know? Responsive, but not too twitchy. I’m not the best driver, so I needed something that wouldn’t bite me too hard if I made a mistake.
Practice Makes Perfect (Sort Of)
Then came the grind. I spent hours just lapping Le Mans and Daytona. Le Mans is HUGE. So many corners, long straights…it’s a beast. Daytona, with the banking, was a different kind of challenge. I focused on getting my braking points right and finding a smooth line through the infield section.

- Joined several online practice sessions.
- Watched some YouTube videos of faster drivers to see where I could improve.
- I used a free setup, and I didn’t adjust it.
The Races
First up was a virtual Le Mans. I joined a team with a couple of guys I’d raced with before. We weren’t aiming to win, just to finish. It was a mess. We had some crashes, some penalties…at one point, I think I was driving in the wrong direction! But, we made it. 24 hours later, we crossed the finish line. We were way down the order, but who cares? We finished Le Mans!
Daytona was next. I decided to go solo for this one. Big mistake! Staying awake for 24 hours straight is tough. I loaded up on coffee and snacks, and just tried to stay consistent. I spun out a few times, hit the wall once (okay, maybe twice), but somehow, I kept going. The last few hours were a blur. I was seeing things, I swear. But, I finished! Again, not a great result, but I did it.
The Aftermath
Exhausted. That’s the best way to describe it. But also, pretty stoked. I managed to complete two of the toughest virtual races out there. Would I do it again? Probably not solo. But with a team? Yeah, maybe. It’s a crazy challenge, but there’s something awesome about pushing yourself to the limit, even if it’s just in a game.
